DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

  • The Department of English was established in 1968 and is committed to providing quality education in English Language and Literature. The erstwhile Aided College was taken over by the Government of Andhra Pradesh on 10 August 2022 vide G.O.Ms.No.28.
  • The Department provides students with a strong foundation in English Language, Literature, Communication Skills, Grammar, Linguistics, Indian Writing in English and various genres of literature. The Department focuses on developing students’ language proficiency, literary appreciation, critical thinking and effective communication skills.
  • The Department encourages practical and experiential learning through classroom discussions, seminars, group discussions, presentations, debates, elocution, literary activities, assignments, projects and student-centred activities. Students are given opportunities to develop their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills through various academic and co-curricular activities.
  • The Department conducts certificate and skill-development courses every academic year to improve students’ communication skills, employability and career opportunities. Special emphasis is placed on Spoken English, Communication Skills, Soft Skills, Personality Development, Interview Skills and other career-oriented language skills.
  • The Department organizes seminars, workshops, guest lectures, literary activities, essay-writing competitions, debates, elocution programmes and other academic activities to enhance students’ creativity, critical thinking, confidence and communication abilities.
  • The Department actively promotes reading habits, literary appreciation, effective communication, creativity, critical thinking and the use of English as an important tool for higher education, employment and professional development.
  • The Department is supported by 1 Regular Faculty, 3 Part-Time Lecturers and 1 Contract Faculty, who are committed to academic excellence, student mentoring and the overall development of learners.
  • The Department of English aims to develop confident, competent and creative students with strong language, literary and communication skills and to prepare them for higher education, employment, competitive examinations, research and diverse professional opportunities.
