- The Department of Botany was established in 1968 and is committed to providing quality education in plant sciences. The erstwhile Aided College was taken over by the Government of Andhra Pradesh on 10 August 2022 vide G.O.Ms.No.28.
- The Department offers B.Sc. Botany – Single Major Programme. Students are provided with knowledge in Plant Diversity, Taxonomy, Plant Physiology, Genetics, Ecology, Environmental Biology, Economic Botany and Medicinal Plants.
- The Department encourages practical and experiential learning through laboratory work, field visits, industry visits, practical demonstrations, projects and student activities. Students also gain practical knowledge in areas such as Mushroom Cultivation, Organic Farming, Nursery Management, Medicinal Plants and Plant Propagation.
- The Department conducts certificate and skill-development courses every academic year to improve students' practical skills, employability and entrepreneurship opportunities.
- The Department has five MOU’s with industries and institutions to provide students with hands-on training, field exposure, practical learning and skill development.
- The Department actively promotes biodiversity conservation, environmental protection, organic farming, medicinal plants, plantation activities, plastic-free initiatives and sustainable practices.
- The Department is supported by 1 Regular Faculty, 3 Part-Time Lecturers and 3 Guest Faculty.
- The Department of Botany aims to develop knowledgeable, skilled and environmentally responsible students and prepare them for higher education, employment, research and entrepreneurship in the field of plant sciences.
